Apostolos Tzitzikostas Presents Policy Roadmap for Sustainable Maritime Transport

Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the nominated incoming Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, has outlined a policy roadmap aimed at enhancing sustainability within the maritime transport sector. His proposals focus on boosting investment in sustainable transport fuels and aligning European efforts with global decarbonisation initiatives.

At the core of Tzitzikostas’ strategy is the Sustainable Transport Investment Plan, which builds upon the Clean Industrial Deal. This plan aims to identify and implement measures to support the energy transition in transport, with a particular emphasis on the maritime sector. Key aspects include enhancing the production and supply of sustainable transport fuels and improving access to electricity for transport. Tzitzikostas has committed to monitoring progress towards the agreed uptake of sustainable maritime fuels, with adjustments to be made as necessary.
