EU Stakeholders Advocate for Assertive Trade Policy and Smarter Legislation at Green Mobility Soirée

On Wednesday, 25 September, a diverse group of 60+ sustainable transport and EU policy stakeholders convened at the Press Club Brussels Europe for the Green Mobility Magazine’s EU Election Special Soirée. The event, which brought together industry experts, policymakers, and thought leaders, focused on the future of EU mobility policy and the challenges for the new parliamentary term.

The panel discussion, moderated by Green Mobility Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Thomas Jérémie Hayden-Lefebvre, explored critical issues such as the affordability of sustainable transport, the role of trade policy in retaining EV manufacturing jobs in Europe, and the priorities for the new Transport Commissioner.

Giorgio Corbetta, Director of Energy, Cleantech, and Sustainability at Kellen / Kellen Europe, emphasised the importance of a cohesive industrial strategy. With over a decade of experience in the Brussels energy, climate, and transport sectors, Corbetta’s insights underscored the necessity of a holistic approach to sustainability.

Julia Poliscanova, Senior Director of Vehicles and E-mobility Supply Chains at Transport & Environment (T&E) highlighted the role of regulatory frameworks in driving innovation. She stressed the importance of sustainable batteries and critical raw materials in electrifying transport.

Herman Wagter, representing Connekt, an independent and non-profit network of sustainable mobility and logistics stakeholders based in the Netherlands, focused on the digital aspects of transport strategy. He emphasised the need for legislation to adapt to the needs of business but called on the industry to embrace data as a means of optimising operations and regulatory requirements.

The panel agreed on the necessity of more assertive trade policies to keep EV manufacturing jobs in Europe and the need for smarter use of existing legislation. The discussion also underscored the importance of making sustainable transport affordable for everyone, a challenge that requires collaboration between policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders.

The soirée concluded with a call for the new Transport Commissioner to prioritise these issues, ensuring that the EU remains at the forefront of sustainable mobility innovation while supporting the region’s economic and environmental goals.

The event highlighted the critical role that collaboration and strategic policymaking play in shaping the future of EU mobility. As the new parliamentary term begins, the insights shared at the Green Mobility Magazine’s EU Election Special Soirée will undoubtedly inform the direction of sustainable transport initiatives in Europe.

The Green Mobility Magazine would like to thank its partners, Chief Political and Connekt, for their support.
